We all know the feeling of being bogged down by everyday routine. The need to release and get outdoors: into the mountains, into the fresh air. To actively experience nature, take a deep breath and forget about everyday mundane. Even catch a breathtaking moment here or there. Bergans not only has the perfect clothing in its collection for the great outdoors, it also actively supports our unique natural landscape and assists in keeping the air clean and pure. Not only for us, but also for future generations.
Bergans of Norway: Over 100 years outdoor-tradition
Ole F. Bergan, bicycle producer, hunter and fresh air enthusiast, was returning from a hunting trip and became fed-up with shoulder straps that cut into his shoulders and aching bones. What followed was a groundbreaking invention: The Norwegian invented a support frame for backpacks – Patent number 20547. With this, the outdoor brand Bergans was born and within the years to follow, it became known not only as a backpack manufacturer, but as an all-out mountain sports equipment brand. Today, the Scandinavian label has been active in the outdoor market for almost 100 years and while still offering its legendary backpacks, it also places strong emphasis on practical outdoor gear, functional alpine apparel and outdoor wear.
Amidst it’s entrepreneurial endeavours, there is always a strong awareness in social and environmental responsibility. Bergans has a clear goal to produce durable quality products where sustained improvements with maximum positive effect come into focus. The entire value chain is involved, which include product development and design, to manufacturing, transportation and logistics right through to the company’s internal management and warehousing, as well as repair and recycling.
Bergan’s aim is to provide unforgettable experiences of nature in fresh, clean air – today and in the future. For this reason, the Scandinavian brand has launched the “Expedition 2020” project – a journey that step by step by 2020 will see at least 70% of Bergans products made from sustainable materials and 75% of materials with approved BlueDesign®, manufacture. And that’s just several projects with which Bergans intends to reduce the environmental footprint of products to a minimum. A worthy goal!
